vintage Christmas

As December 1st is right around the corner all I can think about is kitschy Christmas decorations and gearing up for the holidays! Christmas is such a magical holiday for me. With so much of its meaning in tradition, vintage ornaments speak to that. As I was out and about last night, I started thinking about the Christmas tree at my mother's house and how all the ornaments that grace our tree are special and tell a story. Some were made by my sister and I as kids, some were given to her by my grandmother and great-grandmother and some she picked up at a flea market -- but all tell a story.

Here's some of my favorite holiday decor photos, many of which have inspired whats in my own home and remind me of things I had growing up. Enjoy and check out the links for more!

I've always wanted a giant white flocked tree. The center striped stocking in the second photo reminds me of the stockings we had as kids, which we still use!

I love this idea for a centerpiece!
(from HGTV - have a very vintage christmas)

I love the bulbs on this wreath. My mom still has strands of these bulbs!

All things sparkly...

George's Mother brought out some amazing costume jewelry left to her by her Aunt while we were in town this weekend, and we stumbled across this gorgeous piece of Democratic history. Sparkles, and rhinestones, and Kennedy.  Wonderful!! I can't wait to wear it on my coat or on a little knit hat.

I love a piece of sparkle, especially during the Holidays!  You can just "get away with" more this time of the year.

Those ruby red Louboutin's are just perfect!  Imagine those with just the simplest little black dress. Perhaps with the open back one with the bow I am about to post in the shop.
Gorgeous!
And I cant help but love this mirrored sparkly staircase... it's so lovely paired with the earthy wood and the stark white walls.  Makes the drama just a little bit more realistic!

Under Capricorn makes it rounds..

We had a great little write-up in our dear friend Kelsey's blog House of Lamb.
She resides in Vancouver, BC and has a great blog chronicling her finds, her adventures in typography and some really great make-up advice/reviews (and not to mention, gorgeous to boot!)
A heartfelt thanks to the soon to be Mrs. Hirtle, and her super sweet shout outs!

And make sure you check out the shop, we've added some more coats, fabulous shoes, and this floor length gown which is too fabulous for words! (click the gown to visit the store)

Rocky Winter fashion...

Since Under Capricorn is based out of Philadelphia, what better way to be inspired other than by the City of Brotherly Love's most famous piece of cinematography. Rocky.
Not him, (but what a great shot that is!)
But by the lovely Adrian (Talia Shire). Whom we'd like to mention is Jason Schwartzman's mother. Thumbs up.

Her character in Rocky embraces lots of textures and layers. Fabulous coats, great knit caps, and not to mention those amazing eye glasses...

(see, aren't they gorgeous??)

Adrian is painstakingly shy, and Rocky talks incessantly to try and fill those awkward moments of silence. It's quite endearing.

Inspiration for today.

The weather has been very wet and not all together that inviting to venture out. So I've taken up refuge on my comfy sofa and said "to heck" with all things productive today. The laundry and dishes are forgiving, and thankfully so is George. (He's nestled up on the other sofa, saving the universe hah).

The above is a clip from Charlie Chaplin's "The Kid" that I had the absolute pleasure of watching for the first time last night. It paints a beautiful picture of the love between a father and his child. I was moved and enamored with the story/characters for the entire (albeit way too short) 50 mins. I wanted more.

In celebration of that. Here are some great Dad images...

Oh my!!!

I'm not used to writing often, or even daily. So have patience. Things on this end have been hectic; between travel, trying to get the store up and running and George's accident I haven't been as diligent as I would have wished.

We found a mouse in our house (and frankly, I don't do well with those things)..
which led to George's mishap
which then resulted in surgery and immobility for a couple months!

It's really a sad state of affairs. But he has remained incredibly positive, it's honestly been quite of an inspiration. As much as he hurts and is frustrated by the situation, he never complains. I need to be more mindful of those things in my own life at times.

So, in an effort to promote better bone density and overall health I've been trying to be mindful of what we've been consuming. (Halloween doesn't count though, because that was nothing short of UN-healthy!)

I found an amazing recipe online for Kale chips. They're incredibly fast and easy, and semi potato chip crunchy. I think they're wonderful.

Here's to your health!
